The Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH) Hyderabad commenced with a mission to deliver public health education, pursue research and advocacy and support policy development. PANPREP-The Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla Centre for Infectious Diseases and Pandemic Preparedness at IIPHH embodies the Institute’s commitment to advancing infectious disease research. The Centre aims to serve as a hub for interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and translation of scientific knowledge into practical health solutions. It will bring together researchers, healthcare professionals, and young scientists to drive pioneering studies, adopt cutting-edge technologies, and strengthen India’s capacity to prevent and manage infectious diseases of global concern
1. Needs-Based Training Design
- Conduct rigorous Training Needs Assessments (TNA) with government, field partners, and public health teams.
- Identify competency gaps in surveillance, outbreak response, epidemiology, and programme management.
- Prioritize and plan training programs based on evolving infectious disease threats and public health needs.
2. Content Development & Quality Assurance
- Lead development of high-quality training materials, including FETP modules, outbreak investigations, case studies, and risk communication toolkits.
- Ensure scientific accuracy, regulatory alignment, and pedagogical effectiveness of all content.
- Oversee digital learning resources, e-learning modules, and blended learning formats.
3. Training of Trainers (ToT) & Workforce Capacity Building
- Design and implement Training of Trainers (ToT) programs for public health trainers and field epidemiologists.
- Ensure trainers are certified in both technical content and adult-learning methodologies.
- Build a strong network of trained facilitators for national and state-level training initiatives.
4. Competency Assessment & Performance Measurement
- Develop competency-based assessment tools (e.g., practical exams, simulated outbreaks, scenario-based assessments).
- Evaluate participant performance, learning outcomes, and ability to apply knowledge in real public health settings.
5. Impact Evaluation
- Measure course effectiveness using public health impact indicators (e.g., outbreak reporting timeliness, case detection, case fatality reduction).
- Produce impact reports and metrics for stakeholders, donors, and senior management.
6. Leadership and Strategic Oversight
- Provide strategic direction for the Centre’s entire infectious disease training portfolio.
- Ensure alignment with national priorities, health system needs, and International Health Regulations (IHR) core capacities.
- Lead strategic planning for scaling training programs, digital learning systems, and nationwide workforce development.
- Establish collaborations with Ministries of Health, WHO, CDC, academic partners, and public health institutions.
- Represent the Centre and IIPHH at national/international forums on workforce capacity strengthening and infectious disease preparedness.
7. Research and Knowledge Generation
- Lead independent and collaborative research on training effectiveness, competency-based education, and workforce capacity gaps.
- Develop and submit competitive national and international grant proposals.
- Publish high-quality scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at conferences.
- Publish policy/opinion pieces to advocate for investment in public health workforce strengthening.
8. Administrative and Operational Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance and oversight for research studies and field implementation projects.
- Conduct field visits, training monitoring, and supervision to ensure quality and standards.
- Support development of implementation plans, SOPs, and process guidelines.
- Lead efforts to mobilize resources and secure funding for training and capacity-building programs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or senior leadership.
Essential:
- Any Master’s degree in Sciences / Master of Public Health (MPH) / MD (Community Medicine) / Master’s in Epidemiology or equivalent.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in public health, including at least 6 years in project leadership, management, or academic administration.
