Qualifications

Prof. Shailaja has been with PHFI since 2009. She is a medical doctor trained at Sree Ramachandra Medical College Chennai, and has a Double Masters- MPH from Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute Trivandrum,and Masters in Medical Sciences from Karolinska Institute, Sweden.
Her PhD in injury epidemiology from LSHTM (UK) was through the Wellcome Trust Fellowship. Her interests are to explore the public health impacts of transportation choices, especially on injuries, physical activity and air pollution. She continues to work on safe andsustainable mobility and injury Epidemiology, arising from everyday journeys to work, school and other anthropogenic activities. She also leads teaching, curriculum development, short term trainings and student mentoring.

Current Research activities / Projects
- Dr. Shailaja is currently working on the iRASTE project. It uses Active Bleeding Control for first responder training for prehospital care, with the objective of better patient outcomes post road traffic injury.

Teaches MPH, PG Diploma in Public Health Management, short courses in Environmental health, Disaster preparedness, Research Methods, Injury prevention & Disability. She is actively involved in student supervision -1 PhD (ongoing), 40 Masters/ Diploma theses
