Director & Head – Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla Centre for Infectious Diseases

With formal education in Medicine from Madras Medical College, in Dentistry from King Georges’ Medical College (Lucknow) and in Public Health Administration from the University of Minnesota, Dr. Anil Kaul is a physician-scientist public health professional working in the field of infectious diseases and women’s health, for more than 35 years. Most recently, he served as a Clinical Professor & Program Director for Global Health at the Oklahoma State University, where he also directed the High-Complexity Infectious Diseases laboratory which he established in 2009. He also served as the Chair of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), as Section Editor for the OSM Proceedings, and as a Member of the OneHealth Taskforce.

At the beginning of the most recent pandemic, Dr. Kaul directed COVID-19 testing for the Oklahoma State and served as the clinical director for the newly established Oklahoma Pandemic Center for Innovation and Excellence (OPCIE). He served as a Technical Consultant for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) where he worked on global pandemic preparedness projects. Recently, he also served as the PI on USDA funded project to develop a dashboard for surveillance of emerging/re-emerging infectious diseases. He has served as Senior Health Advisor with the US Department of State, as a consultant for USAID projects, and also as a reviewer for the NIH. He also serves as a visiting Professor at the New Vision University, Georgia, and as a Clinical Professor (Emeritus) at the Oklahoma State University.

Dr. Kaul is listed amongst the World Top 2 percent most cited Scientists by the Stanford University, and has more than 100 scientific papers and approximately 200 scientific presentations. He has been awarded six U.S. Patents and has received multiple awards including the Secretary’s Expeditionary Service Award from the US Department of State, Lifetime Achievement Award at the Global Healthcare Summit, and the Sony-Walmart’s “Science Achiever of the year” award.
